Joe Biden Needs a Math Tutor

Posted by: Shawn Swisher | Comments (0)

In yet another Joe Biden looks like an idiot moment, the Veep went on CBS Wednesday morning and commented on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s response to President Obama’s speech the other night. Jindal was picked to give the Republican response and contrast the differences between the two parties on how to fix the economy. Mr. Biden made a claim to America that shows how truly informed he actually is on the subject:

“But what I don’t understand from Governor Jindal is what would he do? In Louisiana, there’s 400 people a day losing their jobs. What’s he doing?”

It seems Republican governors aren’t the only ones seeing the problem with the stimulus bill recently signed by President Obama. A Democrat has now joined the club. After a governors meeting with Obama, Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen said that Tennessee may be one of the states that refuse some of the money.

Like the other governors, he is concerned about the portion of the money earmarked for unemployment programs. If his state takes the money, it will be required to expand its unemployment program. The problem is that when the Federal money is gone, these states will be left holding the bag to fund an even larger unemployment program than they had before. As a result, they would be forced to raise business taxes to make up the shortfall. Most governors feel it would be unwise to raise taxes on businesses in a recession when jobs are being lost by the thousands. Here’s Bredesen’s take on it: Read More→

Last night in his first speech before a joint session of Congress, President Barack Obama told the nation that he was placingĀ  Vice Pres. Biden in charge of overseeing the spending of the $787 billion stimulus package. Obama said he was picking Biden for the job “because nobody messes with Joe”. This brought a huge grin to the Veep’s face and a standing applause by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who hopped up and down throughout the speech like an out of control jack-in-the-box.

Well, maybe nobody messes with Joe but it seems that Joe doesn’t mess with learning about the job he’s been handed. This morning, when V.P. Biden was asked on CBS to provide the name of the recovery website which has been set up to show the American people how the stimulus money is being spent, Biden said he didn’t know the “website number”. Website number? After looking off-camera and asking a staffer, he finally comes back with the answer (recovery.gov). It’s nice to know that our money is in safe hands with Joe.

I’m Ready to Go Postal

Posted by: Shawn Swisher | Comments (0)

We’ve all been hearing about the fat cat CEOs who have gotten huge bonuses from companies which have lost tons of money and are now getting bailed out by the government using our tax dollars. You may have seen various Congressmen scolding these guys on TV during recent hearings in Washington. What you may not have heard about is the bonus that Postmaster General John Potter is getting. For 2008, his salary increased from $186,000 to $265,000 plus he got a $135,000 “performance bonus”.

But what about that performance? Well, the Postal Service lost nearly $3 billion last year and is projected to lose as much as $6 billion this year. It is considering cutting back to a four or five day a week delivery schedule and stamp prices are set to increase another two cents in May. That’s some awesome performance there isn’t it?

Altogether, Potter’s compensation package totals over $850,000 including perks and benefits. All of this was approved by Congress. Now that the word is out and Americans are voicing their disgust about it, a Congressional investigation will likely occur, but I can save ‘em some money right now…I’ll ruin the Post Office for half that!
