Pope to Pelosi: Catholics Shouldn’t Back Abortion
By · February 20, 2009On Wednesday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi met with Pope Benedict XVI for a fifteen minute meeting at the Vatican. Pelosi is a Catholic who is pro-choice and supports Roe v. Wade. Obviously, the Pope disagrees with her and based on the differing statements the two sides put out about the meeting, you would think they weren’t even in the same meeting.
Afterwards, Pelosi’s office issued the following:
“It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today. In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church’s leadership in fighting poverty, hunger, and global warming, as well as the Holy Father’s dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel.”
However, here’s what the Vatican had to say about the meeting:
“His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural and moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death …”
Is it just me, or did Speaker Pelosi seem to conveniently leave out one little important bit of the conversation. She fails to mention the part of the conversation where Pope Benedict tells her it is wrong for a Catholic to support abortion. I wonder if the scolding from the Pope will cause her to change her views? If it did, I might have a dim glimmer of respect for her but I don’t see it happening. She’ll continue the same old liberal dance around the abortion issue. You know, the one where they claim to disagree with abortion but they have to uphold the Constitution and it would just be wrong to project their moral beliefs onto the people.
Well, if that’s the case, then what about slavery? At one time in this nation’s history it was perfectly legal to own a person as a slave. Did the legality make it right? No. Did the legality prevent our nation’s leaders from stepping in and standing up for what was right? No it didn’t, so what’s the problem now? Why are all these liberals hiding their morals behind the legality established by Roe v. Wade. If they actually believe it’s wrong, then they should stop checking their morals at the door and fight for what is right! Yeah, it’s wishful thinking on my part, but remember…it IS the time for hope and change.
Who the heck is Shawn Swisher? I am a man who believes America is truly a great country. I believe we need to return to the Constitution and the Christian principles this country was founded on. I believe we must protect and preserve our freedoms, or we will most definitely lose them. I believe left wing liberals are a bunch of loons. I am a conservative... join me in the revolution!
